Guy Friends

I never did have too many male friends.  I always felt awkward and just not know how to act around them.  There was only a few and one of them I had in 3rd grade. I became friends with him after he asked me to hold his hand at the Skate Rink during a partner skating session.  I was shocked because nothing like this has ever happened to me before!  He was really cute and after that, I was hooked.  He gave me his phone number at the end of that school year and during the summer, with my best friend telling me that I had to call him back, I did.  We ended up talking a lot on the phone.  I guess I wanted him to be my boyfriend, and I probably think he liked me as a girlfriend but I was in 4th grade. I had no idea so we just played four square or two square during recess and just said hi to each other everyday.  We kept in touch until middle school and then lost track.  We met up again by accident in college because I saw him by pure chance, but by that time we had nothing in common.  It was kind of sad and made me think more about friendships.

I only have one guy friend  in my life that I am really close to and he's my husband.  It's still a mystery to me how men and women can be friends without being in a relationship.

Getting back into Business

I found some more letters and will start posting them so stay tuned.  I am slowing uncluttering my home and so the more items I find, the more I will post.

Also now that I have a better way to scan and an easier way to update posts, I'll be more diligent!

Once upon a time there lived an old person, he was so old he died

I found a few writings of mine that I wrote and found and boy....are they interesting.  Take a look for yourself. These were assignments done for class and the teacher reads it and grades them.  Some of them, they comment.

This is my letter of what happens after the Apocalypse.  About the married part...I was really anti-marriage then and thought I would live as a spinster.

Letter to myself

I found this letter tucked away in one of my many boxes after I moved and I was like....this handwriting looks familiar....oh wait, it's mine.  And why is it addressed to me?  Well thinking back, in English 101 Class back in college, the TA had us do a project and it was to write to ourselves a year from then and give advice etc.  Here is what I wrote and...man...why didn't I listen to myself back then...sheesh, I could have saved myself lots of emotional turmoil but I was not ready and couldn't have understood then what I know now.  Well I still abide by these rules and it's led me to this wonderful life that I have now.  I was pretty right on even 12 years ago.

Snowmageddon

Due to the fact that it's Snowmageddon here in Seattle, I found a letter I wrote way back where....it snowed! And yes I had a hamster named Phoebe (pronounced Pho-Be, like phobia. I thought that was a real name back then and used it during a book report and the teacher thought I was nuts).

Drawing of Phoebe, she was such a cute hamster. She died that winter I think due to the cold.  I came home one day and she was sleeping on her side and wouldn't wake up (we didn't turn on the heat when we weren't home due to the elecric bill).  Her body was all cold and I tried my best to keep her warm but within an hour, she took her last breath died in my hands....RIP Phoebe

Singing Witch Termite

I had to post this one.  This one made me laugh out loud even now reading it like 18 years later. BTW, the schedule that is posted is for what we were going to do when I visited.  Yes as you can see, we had to call our moms at least 3 times that day. My parents were super paranoid. If I even mentioned that we were going to go outside, I wouldn't have been able to visit Jennifer and my visit would have been canceled.  True story, there were so many times when our play dates got canceled. One of the main reasons was my dad having a bad dream the night before.  If he dreamed of a woman or anything he felt was negative, I was not allowed to go outside the house the following day.  True Story!

"May the Force Be With You"

I am currently playing Star Wars The Old Republic and it's actually....fun. I like it and my character is named after a mispronunciation of my cat's name. I made it a male and his name is Solandji. Well I saw this letter and had to post.

Mexico

My boss went to Cancun for Christmas and while he was telling me....I totally forgot that I was there too back in 1997 with my Spanish Club. We raised money by selling beaded geckos and clipping coupons. I think I was able to have all of my trip paid that way or at least a big chunk. Here is a post card that I sent to Jennifer.
I went on this trip because another friend of mine got invited to go to Spain and I was like...I can go travel too and I did. This was also the first time my parents let me travel alone and it was really annoying. After this trip, one of the mom of these kids freaked out because her daughter got sick after the trip. Well out of the 7 or so that were so, of course one person would get sick. The mom blamed me saying I made everyone sick...well I let her know that out of everyone in the trip, I was the one that got all of the immunization shots so she shut up after that. Oh this was also the trip where during a layover in Texas, I saw Chuck Norris and got his autograph...Jennifer has the journal which has it.

Winner picked and I found an old recipe!

Winner has been picked! Thank you for those who participated in my contest!

During an Art Class at UW, we were given a task to make something with a found object from a thrift store. Well the one I got was a recipe box and the cool thing was that it had recipe from the 1950's and 1960's. I am so interested in making some of the dishes. Here is one that I found which I think was popular back then but if you think about it now, would turn people off. Has anyone tried something like this?

Win a super cute pair of Sugarbowljewelry earrings!

  • I know this posting is different but I wanted to try something new. Jennifer and I had a small business venture several years ago and made jewelry and sold it at a craft fair (it was really fun!) Our name was Sugarbowljewelry and we did something we have always wanted to do at least once, which was sell stuff together. I found a pair of earrings that was left from that craft fair and wanted to give it to one lucky reader. It's for pierced ears and sterling silver chain with Swarovski crystals. I'll pick the winner with the most points!

My Fair Lady

One of our favorite movies was My Fair Lady with Audrey Hepburn and Rex Harrison. Jennifer got me into watching older movies. If it was not for her, I would never have watched:

  • Oklahoma

  • Singing in the Rain

  • Rebeca

  • High Noon

  • The Greatest Show on Earth

  • And much more that I don't remember

One movie I do wish to forget was Dr. Dolittle and no it's not the one with Eddie Murphy, this was also with Rex Harrison....gah...if you ever wanted to see bad animal impressions, weird story line (I read the book and the book was wayyyyy better) and an awkward semi romance, this movie is for you.

Also did you know that back in the 50' or around that time, for any movies, kissing scenes had timed limits and restrictions. But like the movie North by Northwest, they actually found a way around it by having the kiss scenes be in spurts of 3 seconds. So, this bypassed the Motion Picture laws and still made the movies of the 1950's etc. very romantic but also very classy I think....

I guess I didn't like this Fire Drill...

Still unpacking my stuff, I came across more journals that I did when I was a kid. This one made me laugh a lot. I vaguely remember this event but I guess it was important enough for me to write it. It's fitting that the notebook memo that I wrote it in has a picture of a cat on it. This cat looks like my cat Steak-y!

Europe 2001

Back during the summer of 2001, Jennifer and I decided to backpack through Europe. Long story short, we had to tell our parents that we were on a "study abroad trip", had Shuttle Express pick us up so that they won't question why there were no other students at SeaTac, and crossed our fingers that we will get to Europe safely and have a friend of Jennifer's pick us up in Munich. Overall, we visited most of Western Europe, only spent under $3,000 each including airfare and did something which we have been wanting to do since we were kids, I think we pinky swore it.

It was a whole different story when we got back though, our parents found out we were not on the "study abroad trip" and were very upset saying they were just about to call the FBI. In the end, my dad who has not spoken this whole time finally said in a fatherly way "you guys smell like homeless".

I found some drawings that I did during the trip and I really drew pretty well back then!

Nothing like a good talking with a Best Friend

I want to rewrite this blog and be more active. My husband and I just moved to a new house and I found more letters and journals that I wrote back when I was a kid. Boy was I detail oriented. Reading some of these were very interesting and made me realize that I was like the way I am even as a child, just now I have better grammar and more interesting things to write than what I ate for breakfast. I will post those later.

I had my best friend Jennifer stop by today and she helped me unpack some of my things. She pulled all of my turtle necks and anything that dated me to the 90's. Me: 'But I lived in the 90's." Jennifer: "That does not mean you have to look like it." Okay she is right. I do need to get rid of these...there were some other clothes but they are too embarrassing to present to the world if I want to be in the 2011's. :)

Afterwards, we talked about what we wanted to do....with our life! What do we do with our lives? Yikes! I don't know. Well we both agreed that we need to do some soul searching. Will get back to you on this..let me book this in Outlook calendar for next Friday at lunch...j/k

Here are the turtle necks below, yes I was wearing them up until now and yes I had 4 different colors, here is a picture with flash and without. I think I need to buy new clothes, ASAP!

Super Friend!

I finally got a new scanner so my letters and old pictures can be uploaded. This was when I went to Jennifer's house for the first time. We were both in 3rd grade. Jennifer's letter is hilarious. We read them together a couple of weeks ago and it was just crazy how we are sometimes.....the same as we are now.

Okay to be fair, here is one of my drawings

Here is one of my drawings back in the day. I was really into the Little House on the Prarie books by Laura Ingalls Wilder and loooooooved to read stories about those times. Thus my drawings are of pioneers. Weird huh?
